With the new openness and social acceptance of glbt lifestyles, the gay publishing niche is also growing and evolving. One such new publishing company that caters to gay literary needs is The Gay Publishing Company in the USA.
Stephen Evans, founder of the company is presently announcing the launching of a new magazine - in both electronic and print formats. Here are some quotes by Stephen:
“The magazine of The Gay Publishing Company is essentially what sets us apart from other publishers,” says founder Stephen Evans, “especially those that market to glbt readers. The magazine will be published online and in a 'virtual,' or electronic, format that can be downloaded and printed on a printer or read on most common e-reading devices; it will also be published in print. Special large-type editions and audio excerpts will be available electronically, at no extra charge to subscribers.
"As part of the introductory discount, subscribers will be asked to take part in beta testing — so our readers will get exactly what they want,” says Evans. "Subscribers will be asked for input on formatting possibilities, design options, and delivery alternatives and a range of general opinions and suggestions.
“Each issue of our magazine will contain a short story or two, some flash fiction, and perhaps some poetry—all in their entirety. But the focus of each issue will be serialized installments of longer works; for example, chapters of novels, scenes from scripts and screenplays, and excerpts from memoirs.
“Serializing is simply a different way of delivering our stories to our readers,” Evans explains. “Such delivery was common in the 1800s. Nearly all of the major works from Charles Dickens were written and published in sections before they were collected and sold as books. And, the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first appeared in issues of The Strand Magazine. In addition, Jack London’s White Fang first appeared in several months of The Outing Magazine. More recently, Stephen King tried to publish The Plant as a serial; unfortunately, it was hacked before its conclusion—it would have been the first “e-serial!
“We’ve gone back to this historic vehicle so that we can offer a maximum number of authors and a wide variety of writing styles and genres in a small amount of space and a short period of time. Those are all perks in today’s rushed society.
“And, that is our gimmick. It’s different, but our readers are going to enjoy the immense variety, the month-to-month suspense, and the flexibility."
